paracentesis part 2Views: 369

Barbara was able to have her paracentesis the Thursday before last. They were able to withdraw 3300 cc’s, a little more than 3 liters. In the beginning they were getting as much as 6 to 7 liters. At least they were still able to get something. She was also able to go about 6 weeks in between procedures earlier on. This last time it had been just a few weeks. Well, she is going back in tomorrow for another one. It has just ben 1 1/2 weeks. She is getting weaker and is finally agreeing to take more medicine when she needs it. She does not want to sleep all the time. She is on her compazaine three times a day now instead of “as needed”. She is also taking her Ativan regular too. This is on top of her methodone, ambian, and a whole bunch of other things. She is not eating much but her hospice nurse said not to push her on that. We are getting her anything she wants but it is so hard for her to think of something she can eat. For the last several days she has wanted mashed potatoes from a fried chicken place. The social worker gave me a handout about how to know when death is near. We are seeing a lot of the signs but they are saying it could be 4 more weeks. She is withdrawing from most everyone. Today she said she may have to say no more visitors at all for a week. There are still so many that want to see her but it may not be able to be worked out. Please say a prayer that they will still be able to draw some fluid tomorrow. She has become scared of everything lately. She is scared they won’t be able to get any. She is scared to get in the shower so she is now being bathed at bedside. She is scared to go to sleep and she is scared to not sleep. She has asked that we have our pastor come talk to her Friday. She is a Chrisian and was saved years ago but is now having doubts. She is scared of that. I wish I could take her fears away but all we can do is be as supportive as possible. Her daughter is going to try and come back from Canada within the next 2 weeks. I pray that she makes it in time.

Kellye,
You dear girl. I am sorry that Barbara is having such a difficult time. Your devotion to her continues to be so wonderful. I know it is so hard to watch someone you love go through so much pain, fear, and suffering. She has you as her steady rock and confidant. You are making such a difference in her life, and helping her to transition with much love. You are a treasure. Do take care of your needs too. Do you have strong supports and a way to nurture yourself? It is important to do so. With much admiration and a bunch of hugs, Gaile

Kellye,

You are indeed a very special lady. I agree with Gaile—be kind to yourself & make sure you do something special for YOU. Even if it’s just a long hot soak in a bubble bath—you deserve some relaxation.

Be well,

Monica

Kellye,
You are indeed a VERY SPECIAL LADY.
I am sorry that Barbara is so scared of everything. I just prayed that God will somehow touch her and give her the peace that she needs at this time. I also prayed that God will give you the strength that you need at this time also. You are such a blessing to Barbara.
God Bless you all.
Hugs, Joyce In NC
