Barbara had her paracentesis on Monday. They were able to drain a little over 2 liters this time. Previously they had been getting anywhere from 5 to over 6 liters. Even though the amount may seem disappointing we were greatful they were able to get anything. A few dAYS before we were told that this would possibly be the last attempt. Now they are telling us that they will keep going in as long as she feels like she can take it and as long as they are still able to withdraw any fluid. She is still pretty swollen in lower abd and upper legs but today is a good day. Yesterday was so bad we were scared to even walk in her room when we woke up. It was such a scary feeling not knowing what to expect. My husband was so worried he asked me to be the one to go in her room. After several really bad days we thought it might be a sign that the downhill progression had begun. She had been on a relatively even plateau for a few weeks so the quick decline was worrisome. I don’t know whether she was just in a slump then or are we are going to see more and more bad days or if today is the turn of the good days coming back. I am afraid that today is the exception. Anyway, we are enjoying her being able to stay in the living room and spend time with us as opposed to staying in her room as she had been for days. Unfortunately my 9 year step daughters were both running fevers of over 102 yesterday so we had to take them back to their mom’s to avoid any exposure here to the unkn. We hated to have to send them back but we are trying to keep as much sickness as we can away from Barbara. We are going on with her birthday party on Wednesday. She has invited over 20 people but asked us to make it extremely clear that no presents and no cameras were allowed. We have relayed that to everyone as well as asking them to please keep the visits as brief as possible. She does so much better when no one is coming. She tends to get worked up and agitated at the thought of visitors. She finally agreed to take her ativan and that has been helping. Thanks for all your prayers. Kellye

Kellye,
You are such a very special lady to be so caring. Barbara is blessed to have you for a daughter-in-law and your husband is blessed to have you for a wife. I know it is so hard. I am so thankful Barbara is having good days. I pray they will continue.
My love, thoughts and prayers are with you all each and every day.
Hugs, Joyce
Dear Kellye; Just opened your email to see that your Mom had fluid drained late Sept. How is she doing? It just seems like days become weeks and before you know it – Thanksgiving. Ours is this coming Monday. The trees are blazened with colour, the sun is shining and air has a scent of smokey fires burning in the homes of yet to be heated by gas. I hope your sister in law is still with you and assisting in the care of your loved one. I also hope you have the will and strength to carry this through as is it is one difficult time. Prayers your way.
Weezie.
